The house’s simple layout and strong presence of geometry gives it a unique and contemporary feel. Generous use of skylights adds to its light and airy harmony of volumes, while maximizing a lush garden setting. Although it’s located rite in the heart of central Seminyak its unique location puts it 70 meters off the nearest road away from any traffic sounds. Its shady old growth trees are home to countless birds that are constantly chirping in the background.

The architect/ artist residing there wanted to include every modern convenience. Clean contemporary lines are present, with its emphasis on light and airflow, while paying homage to traditional Balinese natural materials and the craftsmanship of the builders.

The studio/ lounge is 9 meter x 12 meter with teak floors and features a 12 meter ceiling with skylights opening to the south and to the east. The space flows into the gallery/ office and features a modern sculptural steel and hardwood floating staircase under a 12 meter atrium that brings a soft diffused light into the area.

When viewed from the private garden at the rear of the house, the structure emphasizes a balance between balconies, terraces, doors and windows. The lines are accentuated by four monumental columns made of Balinese red brick (batu merah) intersecting the balconies and the floating ceiling of the second floor.

It is unique to its location; while maintaining a feeling of a lush tropical paradise, yet surprisingly it lies within walking distance to the beach, shops, restaurants and all that Seminyak has to offer.
